Listen to colors

It is important not to want the color of plant as we planned but to listen to the voice of the color itself. That is the way of dyeing of Atelier Shimura. When we dye with plants, we say, “Dyeing must not be carried out as a simple activity”, as we discipline ourselves and take a sincere attitude toward the plants. Despite the dyeing of the same plant, the colors come out differently, depending on collecting locations and seasons. That’s the way colors are born which can’t be named – because each color is so delicate, and such variations appear, and they are all the original colors of Atelier Shimura. Even though we work every day on the dye, we are surprised “Oh! Plants had hidden such colors!”. We provide kimono to you with heart touching happiness coming from the plants themselves that are dyed.
