[Announcement of the opening of the "Ars Shimura Course" in 2026] Color and Words Newsletter No. 19, 2025

We hope you are all doing well as the lingering heat of summer continues. Atelier Shimura has had many people experience the charm of dyeing and weaving through workshops themed around "color and words." We would like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who participated.

Now, in order to provide a place where everyone can experience the world of dyeing and weaving in a deeper and more systematic way, we will be operating under the name "Atelier Shimura School" from September 2025. We have reorganized our previous workshops and are now offering courses that allow you to step up in stages according to your interests and level of proficiency, from casual half-day experiences to a six-month course (scheduled to open in April 2026) where you will weave your own kimono.

We look forward to seeing you at this new learning opportunity, where we can come face to face with nature and share the joy of working with our hands. We look forward to your participation.

Masashi Shimura, Representative of Atelier Shimura

About Atelier Shimura School

Announcement of the opening of the "Ars Shimura Course" in 2026

Starting in April 2026, Atelier Shimura Tokyo and Setagaya will further develop their learning environment and launch the "Ars Shimura Course" under a new curriculum. This six-month course involves carefully weaving bolts of fabric. "Ars" means "art" or "craft" in Latin. Through the handiwork of dyeing and weaving, students will experience the profound art of approaching the life of "things," and through lectures on culture and philosophy, they will learn about "color and language" in a multi-layered way. By approaching things from both the hands and the mind, we aim to deepen self-understanding and understanding of nature. Especially in these rapidly changing times, Atelier Shimura is committed to conveying the essential value of dyeing and weaving.
