Craftsmanship
Atelier Shimura's products are handmade at Midori Kobo in Sagano, Kyoto.
All of the colored threads are dyed using natural plant dyes. They are dyed by hand using colors taken from the life of plants such as roots, branches, and leaves. The soft, delicate, and transparent colors are unique to natural plant dyes. As they are influenced by the season and region, the colors that emerge are always one-of-a-kind. This transience is also a part of the beauty that nature gives us.
These colored threads are then woven by hand on a loom. The warp threads are made of lustrous raw silk from silkworm cocoons, while the weft threads are made of soft, textured pongee threads. The unique color of the fabric is created by the combination of the warp and weft threads.
Atelier Shimura's products are created with a sense of reverence and gratitude for nature, and through a time-consuming process. Each piece is carefully woven, hoping that the colors of life received from plants will touch the hearts of our customers and brighten their days.
