To commemorate the performance of the new Noh play "Okimiya" (based on an original work by Ishimure Michiko) at the Kongo Noh Theater in Kyoto on June 12 , 2021, Gallery Atelier Shimura will be holding a special exhibition "Okimiya."
Now that the whole world is suffering, we want to convey the message of the new Noh play "Okimiya," written by the author Ishimure Michiko in hopes of reviving the world of life, and to have people understand "Okimiya" more deeply. This is the message we have put into this exhibition. The vibrant Noh costumes, which express the soulful words of Ishimure Michiko through color and have been supervised by dyeing and weaving artists Shimura Fukumi and Yoko, will be exhibited in the gallery.
During the event, in addition to the display of Noh costumes for "Aya," "Shirou," "Ryujin," and "Ohahagimi," books related to "Okimiya," specially designed frames for Okimiya, and goshuincho (stamp books) will also be available for purchase. We hope you will come and take the time to look at the Noh costumes up close.
Scheduled exhibits: Aya, Shiro May 28th - June 1st , Ryujin June 4th - June 15th , Ootokokun June 18th - 29th
In conjunction with the exhibition, "Okimiya" related products will be available for purchase on the online store from 12:00 on May 28th.
