atelier shimura × kras "Colors of the Sea"

Color of the Sea
The ocean has an infinite number of colors.
The color of the sea is constantly changing.
Catch the light and sway in the wind.
Freely and at your leisure.
Kras and Atelier Shimura.
The theme of this year's special exhibition is the colors of the sea.
Thinking of the seas of Bali and Japan.
Like the ocean where colors meet,
We wove together an ocean that only we could create.

---------------------------------
- A 100-year-long product
Kras' atta baskets are made in Tenganan Village, one of the few villages in Bali that still preserves the ancient customs and lifestyles of the island, using traditional methods handed down from ancient times. Atta ferns that grow wild in the mountains are harvested and thoroughly dried. After that, skilled craftsmen take their time to weave the baskets tightly and without gaps. The finished product is dried in the sun for a week and smoked in coconut shells. The coconut oil that dissolves in the smoke permeates every corner of the atta basket, making it resistant to moisture, flexible and durable. Coconut oil is resistant to oxidation and has insect repellent properties, and is said to last for 100 years. With continued use, the color will become darker and more intense, aging beautifully. If it gets dirty, brush off the dirt, rinse it quickly with water, and dry it in the shade in a well-ventilated place.
Kras is a craft lifestyle brand that combines traditional crafts and handicrafts from various parts of Japan and Indonesia to bring a sense of ease to your life through original products such as furniture, miscellaneous goods, and tea ceremony utensils. Based in an atelier in Kyoto, they have workshops in Bali and Yogyakarta, where they create products every day. By adding a new interpretation to the delicate techniques of Japanese dressmaking, they hope to deliver the charm and beauty that comes from handicrafts to as many people as possible.
