"Akane" - a beautiful red dye that is deeply rooted in Japanese history, is mentioned in the ancient Manyoshu and has been loved by people since the Nara period. Japanese madder, a perennial vine of the Rubiaceae family that grows wild in the mountains and fields, is an indispensable part of traditional Japanese culture as a red plant dye extracted from the roots.
This time, with the special cooperation of the "Japanese Akane Tradition Project," a project to revive the precious Japanese madder, we will be offering an madder digging and dyeing experience. This is an experience where you can touch and feel the beauty of Japanese nature and culture with your own hands. On the first day, there will be time for a review of the day with Atelier Shimura's representative, Masashi Shimura, to talk about dyeing and weaving, and for participants to interact with each other. This tour is also a journey through the history of colors in Japan. Why not take a break from your everyday life and experience a world of timeless beauty? We look forward to your participation.
