This autumn, Atelier Shimura will be holding its first-ever exhibition of stole works by HORINOUCHI Mayo. Based in Kyoto, she is a dyer and weaver who produces her works using a variety of materials, including cotton, linen, silk, and wool, using thread dyeing and hand looms.
Originally, the lines of a woven fabric are straight, as if drawn with a ruler, but in HORINOUCHI MAYO's expression, the lines change into various lines by combining materials, weaving structure, and post-processing. It is a manifestation of the vitality of each natural material, beyond the creator's expectations. The main stole in this exhibition was created with the theme of "straight distortion" that is created by weaving different materials, wool and silk thread, into a single piece of cloth. The colored silk threads dyed by Atelier Shimura shine vividly among the wool.
HORINOUCHI MAYO considers textiles to be structures made from threads, and continues to create works that seek expression in the fabric. Her winter stoles play with materials and colors. We hope you will come and take a look.

The stole in the above image is 66,000 yen (tax included), and the exhibition and sale stole is from 22,000 yen (tax included)

A dyer and weaver who uses a variety of materials, including cotton, linen, silk, and wool, and creates works using thread dyeing and hand looms. The unevenness and distortion created by the combination of the complex interweaving of warp and weft threads and post-weaving processing enriches the look of the fabric. Her works, such as blankets, rugs, and other interior fabrics, as well as stoles, are presented at solo exhibitions and sales events.
