Atelier Shimura 2026 First Half Series of Lectures "Searching for a new landscape - A journey from one book" Lecturer: Atsuko Hayakawa
Our guest lecturer will be Professor Atsuko Hayakawa, former vice president of Tsuda University and a leading expert in English-speaking literature. Starting with the work of Shimura Fukumi, we move on to Viktor Frankl, Virginia Woolf, and Kazuo Ishiguro. What kind of "new landscapes" will unfold in our minds as we come into contact with the souls of great works and artists from ancient and modern times? Human dignity in difficult times, ethics in the age of AI, and an encounter with nature. The journey that begins with a single book will eventually return to our own way of life and the origins of Shimura Fukumi's thought. This five-part lecture series will reexamine human dignity through literature and art and cultivate a perspective for living in the modern world. We look forward to your participation.
