[New Gallery Opening Commemorative Exhibition "Shimura's Handicrafts and Philosophy - Shimura Fukumi's Small Cloths"] Letter of Colors and Words 2025 No. 9
We are pleased to announce that we will be opening a new gallery in Setagaya, Tokyo on Saturday, April 12th. Located on the first floor of a building reminiscent of a white Western-style house, the gallery faces a lush garden that changes with the seasons, creating a relaxing space.
The gallery will have a permanent exhibition and sale of Atelier Shimura's kimonos, obi, and small kimono accessories, as well as special exhibitions throughout the year featuring works by dyeing and weaving artists Fukumi Shimura and Yoko Shimura, as well as works by artists with ties to Atelier Shimura. There will also be talk events with a variety of guests.
We are currently preparing to create a gallery that everyone can enjoy. Please come and have a look.

New Gallery Opening Commemorative Exhibition: "Shimura's Handicrafts and Philosophy - Shimura Fukumi's Small Fabrics"
To commemorate the opening of the new gallery, we will be holding the exhibition "Shimura's Handicrafts and Philosophy - Fukumi Shimura's Small Cloths."
Atelier Shimura inherits the artistic spirit of dyeing and weaving artists Fukumi Shimura and Yoko Shimura, and continues to preserve Japan's traditional handcrafts of "plant dyeing" and "handloom weaving." We hope that you will be able to feel their unique philosophy on nature and art through their works, which express the beauty of the colors received from plants through textiles.
This time, in celebration of Fukumi Shimura's 100th birthday, we will be exhibiting a collection of small textiles that the artist has woven over the course of her 70 years of creative activity, including some never-before-seen works. In addition, Atelier Shimura's products, including kimonos, obi belts, stoles, and newly created small textiles, will also be on display.
Come experience the world of dyeing and weaving at Atelier Shimura in our newly renovated gallery space in Setagaya and spend a spiritually enriching time.
