[Shiga Prefectural Museum of Art] "100th Anniversary of the Birth of Living National Treasure Fukumi Shimura Exhibition: A Weaving of Colors and Words"

Starting in October, the Shiga Prefectural Museum of Art will hold an exhibition entitled "100th Anniversary of the Birth of Living National Treasure Shimura Fukumi: A Weaving of Colors and Words." More than 80 pieces of Shimura Fukumi's work from the collection of the Shiga Prefectural Museum of Art, one of the largest in Japan, as well as works on loan from outside the museum and materials related to Fukumi, will be on display, tracing her career from her early days to the present, including her "Tale of Genji" series and works themed around Shiga, Fukumi's spiritual roots. The exhibition will also focus on her work as an essayist, and introduce various words that talk about her dyeing and weaving works, her hometown, and her thoughts on her work. Enjoy the encounter between colors and words, like the woven tsumugi silk fabric woven by the intersection of warp and weft threads.
As part of the exhibition-related events, there will also be a lecture by Yoko Shimura, so we hope you will be able to attend.
