Kimono from Atelier Shimura
While inheriting the techniques and aesthetic sense of the original dyeing and weaving artists, Fukumi Shimura and Yoko Shimura, we create each kimono with the aim of creating something uniquely Atelier Shimura.
Seiran

The indigo dyeing process takes about two months, and is done with indigo at its most vibrant. You can feel freshness and youthfulness even in the dark color. Indigo is a plant that has been close to the lives of Japanese people since ancient times. It is a color that becomes familiar over time and walks with you through life. Atelier Shimura dyes indigo in accordance with the phases of the moon. This kimono allows you to feel the mysteries of nature on your skin.
Silver Mouse

Gray, along with brown, is one of the most stylish and sophisticated colors. It is dyed from the branches and leaves of oak and crape myrtle trees, the burrs and skin of acorns, and other leaves and branches. There are countless shades of gray that can be created through plant dyeing. This is the origin of the expression "Shijuu Hatcha Hyaku Nezumi." For this reason, it can be said that it is fate to come across a color that is "this color!" We hope you will find your own gray. This is a kimono that can be worn by people of all ages and genders.
Cherry blossoms

The pale pink color of cherry blossom petals can be dyed not only from cherry blossoms, but also from the trunks and branches of plum and wintergreen trees. When dyed with a fragrant dye that has been boiled for a long time, the color becomes subtle. Cherry blossoms have been admired since the Heian period as a tree that represents spring in Japan. When you wear the soft pale pink color, you can feel the warm arrival of spring as if you are admiring the cherry blossoms. This kimono is dignified yet feminine, making it perfect for important special occasions.
Thread dyed with colors taken from plant life.
You can feel the beauty that nature gives you on your skin.

All colored threads are dyed with natural dyes. They are dyed by hand using colors taken from the life of plants such as roots, branches, and leaves. The soft and delicate colors are unique to natural dyes. As they are also affected by the season and climate, each color is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for both the maker and the customer. You will be able to feel the beauty that nature gives you not only with your eyes but also with your skin.
A landscape woven together by warp and weft.
"Muji-style kimonos" are at the heart of Atelier Shimura's production.

These colored threads are woven by hand on a loom. The warp threads are made of lustrous silk threads from silkworm cocoons, and the weft threads are made of soft, textured pongee threads. The focus of production is on "plain-colored kimonos," where the beauty of color shines through the most. We weave without compromising on even a single thread, creating stripes and shades of color that can only be seen when we look closely. In this way, delicate scenery emerges from the plain kimono. It is precisely because of its simplicity that the characteristics of hand weaving are fully revealed. It is the weaver who is most tested. For Atelier Shimura, this is "plain-colored kimonos."
