A long fiber whose main component is fibroin (a type of protein) extracted from silkworm cocoons. It has a unique and beautiful luster. There are domesticated silk and wild silk, which includes wild silk such as tussah silk and wild silk. Domesticated silk also includes raw silk and degummed silk.
