Suou: A tree native to India and the Malay Archipelago, the core of the trunk is used as a dye. A box of offerings dyed with Suou is preserved in the Shosoin Repository. Before mordant application, the color is brownish vermilion, but after mordant application, it changes to a vivid red color such as crimson, reddish purple, or deep grape.
