Shimura Fukumi and Tsuchiya Yoshimasa Picture Book Publication Commemoration Wood Carving Exhibition "Meteor - A Tale of Animals Raised by a Poet"
To commemorate the publication of the picture book " Meteor - Stories of Animals Raised by a Poet" ( published by Kyuryudo ) , this Atelier Shimura Gallery exhibition will feature new woodcarvings by sculptor Yoshimasa Tsuchiya as well as original illustrations for the picture book that Tsuchiya created.
I met Mr. Tsuchiya about 10 years ago. We had just published our collection of works, "Kikimimi no Mori" ( 2012), and we hit it off as we both worked with plants as materials. We organized an exhibition called "Shimura no Iro meets Tsuchiya Yoshimasa." We have been on friendly terms ever since. This time, we are holding an exhibition to commemorate the picture book he created together with his grandmother , Shimura Fukumi .
The various animals that Tsuchiya creates are beautiful and sacred at the same time. This time, she will be exhibiting works related to animals that appear in picture books. We hope you will stop by .

<Picture book "Meteor - Stories of animals raised by a poet">
A fairy tale presented by the centenarian dyeing and weaving artist Fukumi Shimura and the sculptor Yoshimasa Tsuchiya. A picture book with a message about "rebirth" that praises eternal art.
This fairy tale was written based on a dream that Shimura Fukumi had during the "Shimura no Iro meets Tsuchiya Yoshimasa" exhibition held in 2014. The story features animals created by Tsuchiya, and Tsuchiya has provided illustrations for it to coincide with the second exhibition in 2023.
Synopsis: "In a small house in the forest, a young poet is about to be called to heaven, being held in the arms of a gentleman. The gardener and his sons prepare for the ceremony by filling the garden with pine needles. An old man wearing a turban appears and tells them, 'Tonight, a beautiful animal called Meteor will come to greet him.' Soon, the garden becomes a sea of silver..."
