Playing with rags ― A story about small rags
2019/05/10

When woven cloth is sewn into a kimono, there are inevitably leftover pieces. It would be a shame to throw away these pieces that have been woven using colors from plants, so we call them "kogire" (small pieces) and store them carefully in baskets no matter how small they are. There is a story behind each small piece, and they have a condensed world, strength, and scenery that is different from a kimono. It is a lot of fun to look at the many small pieces that have accumulated and think "what should I make?" Atelier Shimura's frames and goshuincho (stamp books) were born from playing with small pieces in this way.
